Is MintVine a Scam? Some Things You Should Know
If you are looking to make extra money online by taking paid surveys and performing other easy tasks then MintVine is one of your choices. But is this place any good or is MintVine a scam that is going to be nothing more than a waste of your time?
If you know me then you know that I love to try new ways to make money online. I make a living working online but I still like testing out ways to earn more for the heck of it. I came across MintVine a while ago and decided to take a look into this site and see if its any good. Now… I finally got around to reviewing this site and in this short review I’ll be going over some of the things you should know before you decide whether or not this opportunity is for you.
- Website: mintvine.com
- Type: Paid survey site
- Cost to Join: Free
- Recommended?: Not for everyone, more on this
MintVine is a website that anyone can join for free and earn money taking short online surveys and participating in their daily poll. Well, they don’t actually pay you in money. They give you “points” which you can then redeem for real money.
You might be wondering how they can pay you to take surveys online and the way it works is pretty simple. You see, MintVine is actually owned by a market research company called Branded Research Inc. This company gets paid big money by big companies all over to conduct market research and get opinions from consumers.
MintVine is their way of getting people’s opinions. You take surveys and give your opinions, they pay you a small amount for your opinions, and they get paid for those opinions by other companies.
How It Works
The process of how you take surveys and get paid is pretty simple. The first step is of course you have to sign up. This is free to do and only takes a minute. All you need to do is enter your name, email, and create a password for your account. Alternatively you can log in with your Facebook account.
You will get paid 200 points for creating your account.
After that the next step is you have to fill out your profile, which will give you another 50 points. This is very important to fill out correctly because this will help them determine relevant surveys to send your way. If you don’t fill this out accurately you are more likely to get disqualified from surveys.
Once that is filled out you are ready to start taking surveys, completing offers, and ultimately earning some money.
Different Ways To Make Money
There are several different ways to earn a little extra money on this site. Taking paid surveys is the main way to do so and that is what I’ll be going over first.
The surveys that you can participate in are generally 10-20 minutes in length and payout between 150-300 points. There aren’t many surveys available at any given time because they try to match you only with surveys that are appropriate to you.
There are a lot of offers available for you to earn points with and I’m not going to be covering them all. Instead I’ll just give you an example of some you can expect to see…
You will find all sorts of offers here…. free samples, enter to win raffles, free trial offers to sign up for, ads to watch, and about a million other things.
You can also earn points by buying local deals. These deals could be a range of different things including…
- buying a meal at a certain restaurant
- getting a haircut at a hair salon
- staying at a certain hotel… etc.
The points you can earn with these deals varies greatly. Generally I would say you can expect anywhere from 100-500 points though.
You can also earn 5 points a day just by participating in the daily poll which literally takes 2 seconds. Here is an example of one..
If you refer other people to MintVine you can earn 15% of what they earn for the entire time they are a member.
These focus groups are the best paying out of all the ways to make money here but I am listing them last because you will likely never get an invite. You can earn $25-50/ hr in this focus groups.
How You Get Paid
You can redeem your points for real money via PayPal or Dwolla, or you can redeem them for gift cards to Amazon and a bunch of other big retailers.
You will need to get up to 1,000 points in your account before you can cash out. With each point equaling $0.01, this means that you need $10 worth of points to cash out.
How Much Can You Make?
The unfortunate answer is not much at all. I was hoping MintVine would bring something different to the table but it turns out they are just like every other paid survey site out there. The industry standard is to barely pay survey takers anything and this is because it is so easy to get people’s opinions nowadays with the internet.
I don’t have an exact number to give you but I can say that you will definitely be making less than minimum wage if you factor in all the time wasted and being disqualified from surveys, etc.
My Biggest Complaint
My biggest complaint is that there is just a major lack of available surveys. Its not like you can just go take survey after survey and get paid. Its is common to have no available surveys at all some times.
This is a complaint that I also read about many other people experiencing.
Final Thoughts & What I Recommend
Well… MintVine is definitely not a scam. They are legit and you can make some money taking surveys and such, but its not all that great of an opportunity either. There are no “good” survey sites out there where you can actually make decent money.
But if you really want to make pocket change taking surveys online then I would recommend SwagBucks over MintVine. SwagBucks is a much larger site and they offer a heck of a lot more ways to earn money and overall have a lot more opportunity.
But like I said, I don’t really recommend any paid survey site. They just don’t pay much at all and there are better ways to make money online with your spare time.
I make a living working online for myself and I sure as heck am not going around taking paid surveys. I have written a post on what I do to make money online, how it all works, and how others can do the same. You can click the link below to read about it.
