Is Inbox Dollars Worth It? – How Much Can You Make?
Inbox Dollars is one of many sites where you can get paid for taking surveys, reading emails, playing games, etc. But is Inbox Dollars worth it? How much can you make and does the time you put into it pay off?
To answer this question I opened an account with Inbox Dollars and have been working on making money for a while now. But before I get into how much you can realistically make I want to give you a brief overview of Inbox Dollars.
Overview of Inbox Dollars
Inbox dollars is a website that receives money from companies all across the world for the purpose of market research. They provide surveys, emails, games, etc. to collect peoples opinions, characteristics, thoughts, etc. and they pay you for the information you provide or for simply your time.
Like I said, you can earn money from other activities other than surveys, such as games and using their search engine. And its real money.
Thats one of the things I found I really like about Inbox Dollars, you can earn actual cash instead of just gift cards and other prizes. You are able to cash out once you reach $30.
Besides earning cash you also earn “sweeps“. With your sweeps you can enter for prize drawings and they vary in the amount of sweeps that they cost. The prizes consist of gift cards and large cash amounts. Just to give you an idea here are a few sweep entries that are available to me right now
The sweep entries are a fun drawing that gives you some hope of getting some real money. Unfortunately there are A TON of people that enter them and you have very little chance of ever winning.
So lets stick to the actual cash that you can earn.
HOW MUCH CASH CAN YOU EARN?!!!
Like I’ve mentioned above, you can earn cash from several different ways including surveys, games, web searches and also buying items online. Of course you don’t want to have to buy things to earn money so I’m not going to talk about that. And you make VERY little money from the games and web searches so I’m not going to bother with that either here.
The most money you can earn comes from reading emails and taking surveys. And by doing these you earn real cash, not some fake type of points that make it confusing.
I found taking surveys to be an easier way to earn for me. But getting paid for reading emails will earn you around the same.
So how much do surveys pay? Well it varies depending on a lot of things, the time it takes being one of the main reasons. A lot of the surveys you will see come from Peanut Labs Surveys and TapResearch, which partner with Inbox Dollars to bring you the surveys.
To give you a general idea of the amount of points you can earn per survey take a look below at the surveys that are available to me right now as I write this
Now remember, these are all pretty normal surveys that you will find on Inbox Dollars. The prices will vary but they are all right around these amounts.
To get a better idea of the average survey I added up all of the cash rewards above and all of the estimated times. What I got was that if you would take all of these surveys you would make $9.29 and it would take you 198 minutes (3.3 hours). This amount equates to only $2.82 per hour. I kid you not.
Thats an average of what you are looking to earn. A measly $2.82/hr. Now tell me if you think thats worth your time? This might be an alright way to earn a little extra for a young kid, but its nothing to someone older. Your time can be spend better online than that if you are looking to make real money.
And this is the wage you will earn IF you qualify for all of the surveys. I say “if” because you will likely NOT qualify for every survey you try. You will end up spending some time starting to take surveys only to be rejected and it can be a waste of time.
However, I will say that the longer you stay a member the more surveys you will find yourself qualified for. A lot of survey sites like this one tend to reward their older members in ways like this.
Takes too long to cash out
The cash out threshold is $30 and it just takes quite a while to be able to cash out. There are a lot of complaints like this, but honestly, what do you expect? When I signed up I wasn’t expecting to make a full time wage. I knew it wasn’t going to be much so I’m not really complaining about that.
Here are a few of many reviews about this (source – surveypolice.com)
But there is some good about Inbox Dollars
I will say that Inbox Dollars has a good reputation when it comes to actually paying. There are VERY few complaints about them not paying upon cashing out. A lot of survey sites I have looked at try to do everything possible to not pay their members. Inbox Dollars is a legitimate site and won’t rip you off.
And I forgot to mention above but you get a $5 bonus when you sign up. So its a nice start but remember you can’t just cash that out right away. You have to make it to $30 first.
What I recommend
If you are going to use Inbox Dollars I recommend that you do not go out of your way to read emails, take surveys, etc. Do it when you are bored or something but it is not worth chasing for money.
The easiest way to earn on Inbox Dollars is to use their search engine and get rewarded. I didn’t talk about it above because you make VERY little this way, but its the easiest. This is how it works: Every 4 searches you do you get rewarded, which is usually anywhere from ($0.01 to $0.03) + (1 to 5 sweeps). Here is an example after I did 4 searches
Its definitely not much but you don’t have to go out of your way to earn it. Just search as you normally would with Google or Yahoo.
- NOTE – SwagBucks has a search engine where you can earn also, and I would say it is a little better.
Is it worth it?
Sure, but don’t expect a lot of money. It is nice to earn a few extra bucks every month or two but don’t expect much. Like I said, use it when you are bored. The money will eventually add up.
