How to Get My Website Ranked in Google?
Everyone wants more traffic but it can be so difficult to rank high in Google, the king of search traffic. You are asking how to get my website ranked in google? And you need answers. Well you don’t just go out there and start writing a bunch of articles and hope that they rank. There are important steps that you should take with each article you post that will GREATLY increase your chances of ranking high in Google.
Just know that even with these steps you WILL NOT rank on the first page of Google for every post you make. I have never seen anyone do that. But the following 5 steps will increase your chances and you will benefit from this. Here are 5 important things you need to be doing.
1) Find a keyword by doing research
The first thing you need to do is research a keyword using a keyword research tool. The point of this is to find keywords that are less used in articles by other websites. By using low competition keywords (aka low hanging fruit) like this you can greatly increase your chances of ranking simply because there aren’t as many other sites ranking for that keyword.
If you are looking for a good keyword research tool I suggest you check out my review of Jaaxy Here. It will give you all you need to know about any keyword including the amount of searches it gets, its expected traffic, its competition, and more.
2) Research the keyword’s SERP
SERP stands for Search Engine Results Page. So what you want to do here is simply type in your keyword in Google and see what results come up. You only have to be concerned with the first page here.
What you are looking for is the amount of authority that the websites have that are already ranking on page one for this keyword. You can just eyeball this if you are experienced in your niche. For example, if you are in the fitness niche, muscleandfitness.com and menshealth.com are huge authority sites.
You can also get a tool to check authority called the MOZ bar. I have the Google Chrome web browser and its available as an extension. You can also go to MOZ.com to get this tool. It will give you information such as page authority and domain authority. When you have it all of your search results will be analyzed for page and domain authority as shown below
You want to try to stay away from search terms that have huge authority sites ranked for them. If you are using the MOZ bar a rule of thumb is that websites that have a page authority of less than 30/100 are out-rank-able. Thats not to say that you can’t outrank a 40 or even higher though.
3) Write your content around your keyword
This is of course what its all about. Search engines like Google are trying to find the best content for their searchers. They don’t rank a bunch of crap content high. This would ruin their reputation and people would search elsewhere, such as Yahoo. They want to provide the best.
So make your content good and RELEVANT. Relevancy is key. People searched your keyword because they want information on it, not something barely related.
If you write good content it will keep people coming back for more. Google will notice the increased traffic and they will reward you. Good content will also get people to leave comments and comments are also considered by Google when it comes to rank.
There is an unwritten role that you should write at least 750 words per article. Some people will even tell you 1000 or more. The reason you should write at least 750 is because the less words you have the less help and information you will be able to provide. And Google likes helpful content remember.
4) Customize the Meta Title and Meta Description
The meta title and description are what shows up in the search engines. The meta title should without a doubt include your keyword because this is what your article should be centered around.
The meta description is what needs more of the work. I suggest that you install the All in One SEO plugin to customize this. Don’t worry its free. If you don’t have a plugin like this Google will automatically use the first 160 characters of your article as the meta description. If you do have the plugin then customize it. Make sure the keyword is included in it and just make sure its a good short description that gets people to want to read your article.
The reason it is important is because you can make it more of an attention grabber than the beginning of your article.
If you have All in One SEO plugin you can find this at the very bottom below your post or page. (I still have yet to customize them) This is the meta title and description box.
5) Share your content on social media
This is important in a number of ways. It both helps you develop a following and drive traffic to your website, and it can actually help you rank higher in search engines.
When you post on social media you don’t have to wait for the search engines to rank you. You go out and you bring in the traffic yourself. After every post you make on your website you should post a link to it with a brief description on different social media sites. Google +, Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest are some of the main ones.
You can also improve your Google rankings from social media posts. One of the reasons is from the links that you post. The links you post point back to your website and this makes it seem, I guess you could say, popular and well liked or important, which will rank better.
There are a million other things that you can do to increase your chances of ranking high in searches but these are ones that should be your foundation. Don’t skip these steps. On every post or page you should follow these and you will be rewarded.
Search traffic is the best and easiest (if you get ranked high) form or traffic. Once you get ranked there is no telling how long you will stay in that spot. You could be bringing in lots of traffic from that post for years.
