Consumer Opinion Institute Review – Scam or Legit?

If you are thinking about making a little extra money taking online surveys then Consumer Opinion Institute is one of your choices. But is this place any good? Or is Consumer Opinion Institute going to be a complete waste of your time?

If you know me then you know that I like to test and try out new ways to make extra money online for the heck of it. I look into and “investigate” paid survey sites all the time and this place was on my list. So I finally got around to taking a look into them and in this short Consumer Opinion Institute review I’ll be going over what I think is important to know and ultimately whether or not I think this place is worth your time.

Overview

Consumer Opinion Institute is a market research panel that is run by TNS, which is an international market research company that operates all over the world.

This panel conducts market research by gathering consumer opinions via mail and online surveys. Anyone can join this panel and make money taking these online surveys.

How It Works

1) Join The Panel

Joining the panel is free to do and doesn’t take long. When you are registering you will be given a short questionnaire where you have to fill out personal information about your lifestyle, income, family, etc, so that Consumer Opinion Institute can make a profile for you.

It is very important that you fill out this information correctly because they will use this to match you with appropriate surveys.

2) Take Surveys

Once you are a member Consumer Opinion Institute will send you survey offers that you can participate in. Their main method for sending surveys is by mail, but they also send online surveys by email as well.

In a world where online surveys are taking over I actually like how they are getting back to how it used to be. The mail surveys that they send are nice and a lot of people like this survey method.

3) Get Paid

This survey panel isn’t like a lot of others where you will redeem points for gift cards and things like that. You will receive straight cash from Consumer Opinion Institute.

If you are taking mail surveys they will include the money (via cash or check) in the mail with it.

Earning Potential

Consumer Opinion Institute is for people looking to earn a few extra bucks each month with very little time and effort. But don’t expect to earn much.

On Consumer Opinion Institute’s website they tell you that as a panelist you can expect to receive anywhere from 1-2 mail surveys each month and about 1 online survey per month. This seems to hold true from the research I have done and member reviews I have read online.

These surveys will pay out anywhere from $1-$5… so you get the point. You won’t be making much.

What Are The Surveys Like?

If you are familiar with any of the popular online survey sites like SwagBucks or Global Test Market then you know what to expect.

The surveys you will receive can be about numerous topics… shopping, food, groceries, entertainment, sports, etc. They are all easy to fill out and are in multiple choice form.

Each survey will take you an estimated 10-20 minutes (so they say) for you to complete.

Another Way To Earn

In addition to taking surveys and earning cash you can also possibly win $500 in cash in their sweepstakes drawing. They hold a drawing every quarter and pick 2 members to receive $500.

You get entered into this drawing when you sign up and can earn more entries.

This is obviously not something you should count on but I thought I would mention it anyhow.

Complaints

Reading over member complaints is one of the most important things you should do when you are looking into a survey site like this. You can learn a lot and gain all sorts of valuable insights just reading over what members think.

Some of the most common complaints I have found include…

Long Surveys

They tell you that each survey should only take 10-20 minutes but many members disagree with this claiming that they can take up to an hour!

Part of the reason for this is that these mail surveys are crammed full of with small words, which brings me to the next complaint.

Small Print

The mail surveys have such small print that it can take a while to get through. This isn’t just a single complaint. I have read about this multiple times.

One page of the survey may seem like 2 pages because the words are so small.

Final Thoughts & What I Recommend

All in all I like what I see for the most part with Consumer Opinion Institute. They are a legitimate survey site and are in no way a scam.

Being a panelist here is something that some people seem to like while others.. not so much. The main problem that I have with this site is the length of their surveys and the lack of surveys. Spending up to an hour for a $5 (at most) survey is a little ridiculous as far as I see it. And it would be nice to have a little more opportunity to earn money. 1-3 surveys a month is not much at all.

Because of these 2 reasons I don’t really recommend Consumer Opinion Institute all too much. Paid survey sites like SwagBucks pay better for your time, have shorter surveys, have a lot more available surveys, and offer other ways to earn some extra money.

However, I don’t really recommend any paid survey site all that much. They are an easy way to earn a little extra change but that’s it…. just extra change.

There are better ways to make money with your spare time. I actually make a living working for myself online and I sure as heck am not going around taking paid surveys.
